During COP29 in Baku, representatives from countries including Canada, Chile, the European Union, Mexico, Norway, Switzerland, and the UK announced plans to submit new NDCs that set a steep trajectory toward net zero emissions. These updated targets are designed to be in line with the IPCC’s 1.5°C pathway, requiring absolute, economy-wide emissions reductions (covering all sectors and greenhouse gases) and aiming to achieve net zero by mid-century. The press release underscores that ambitious near-term targets will be essential to reach these long-term net zero goals. The new NDCs, described as “NDCs 3.0,” will be submitted ahead of COP30 in Brazil, marking a critical step in cementing the global commitment to a net zero future. “Climate Action”
